Bishopton scale new heights over the weekend.

Bishopton Rugby club continued their desire to become the heart of the community over the weekend. The woman’s team won their first league game, over 120 jumped on the bus to cheer on Scotland at BT Murrayfield, then over 50 kids took on the grand national and family quiz and the three midi teams hit the road on Sunday for games.

Our Women’s team had their first league win, beating Wigtownshire 19 – 5. Each player showed such a cohesive and dominating performance, it was a long awaited, but deserved win.

Saturday morning the buses left for BT Murrayfield with 120 excited rugby fans hoping for a Scotland win. Scotland did not disappoint with a win against Fiji, but the highlight of the trip was the Bishopton masses starting the Mexican wave that made its way round BT Murrayfield 4 times. Great to see all the kids enjoy the trip and we can’t wait for next years.

Under 14s made the long trip, through biblical rainfall, to a sunny Annan. The pitch, while heavy, was perfectly playable. Annan were well coached around the breakdown and both teams competed aggressively to cancel each other out in this area. Bishopton’s speed of play away from the breakdown and ability to keep the ball live allowed them to exploit the space. Through excellent handling and support play they were able to gain dominance and win the game. Fantastic effort from both teams to keep going till the end on a heavy and energy sapping pitch.

Under 13s made the short trip to Birkmyre. A bit of a wet pitch meant both sides struggled with ball i hand but well done to both teams trying to play the off-load rugby they have been coached. Birkmyre edged the result, but you can see the boys are coming together as a team and can’t wait for next game.

The micro and mini section had a relaxed day after our trip to BT Murrayfield. Grand national and rugby challenges before our quiz master Sam Cook took the families through a few rounds of rugby and general knowledge. The Woodrow’s came out on top
