Royal Bank RugbyForce 2018

Sunday 12th August saw Bishopton Rugby host our 2018 Royal Bank RugbyForce Day. This year we set ourselves several goals in order to make the coming season one to remember, and they were no mean feats – they included:

  • Resizing and moving the pitch
  • Raising new posts
  • Deep cleaning and clearing out the changing rooms
  • Updating of facilities in the previously unused 3rd changing room

To help out with all these task and many more we were please to accept the help of over 30 volunteers from throughout the club and also the helping hands of Scotland and Glasgow Warriors Ryan Wilson and Jonny Gray to help with some of the heavy lifting required.

Time to raise the posts
The posts are set time to get the guy ropes down

The day started as early as 7:30am with a dedicated crew out early doors in order to finish the preparations on the new pitch markings to ensure that the new post positioning would be spot on. As the day moved on the foundations for the posts got deeper and the hard task of raising the posts into position started. All in it took around 20 people to man the support ropes and heave the posts into position no easy feat. This was made evident when First XV stalwart and the man in charge Matthew Wallace shouted ‘Right down the other end and we go again!” There was disbelief that there was no rest in-between the two posts going up. But its always best to get the hard jobs out the way early on.

A little help was required in double checking the crossbar was tight.

With the posts in place and the more specialised building work going on around the back of the club with the Front Row leading the charge in cousins Ryan and Boab Moore, lending their trades as an electrician and joiner to help get the previously unused container to a place where we can start proper work on it. This will become very useful for the club moving forward now that the ladies section is up and running allowing the ladies to make this their own space.

Handling Drills

While this was ongoing back out on the training area Ryan Wilson and Jonny Gray were getting to meet the future of Bishopton Rugby and putting our junior section through their paces in a series of handling and bag exercises. Jonny then took to playing touch rugby with members from our Senior, Ladies and U18s team and in this time Ryan was teaching the juniors a new trick that could be very handy in keeping an opposition guessing just what you might do next. This was all followed up by a Q+A session for the whole club.

The day was rounded out when Bishoptons Royal Bank RugbyForce Young Ambassador Andrew Carey got the chance to put some questions to the Scotland Caps.

All in it was once again another outstanding day down at Holmpark with members from all areas of the club coming together to show what makes our club great!

Ladies Play First Game

On Wednesday 18th March Bishopton took another huge step forward in the progression of our club, when we had our first ladies team take to the pitch after several months of intense training and an education of the game. The series of games came in the form of a touch rugby tournament with the latest Cohort from Project Pit Stop and West Ladies.

With the games completed and lots of smiles all round it leads on fro Bishopton to make more leaps and bounds and work towards the step into contact rugby and another step towards putting out a XV.

Bishopton Launch Ladies Rugby

As you may have seen in our Presidents Christmas Speech, in 2018 Bishopton Rugby are looking to launch a Ladies Rugby Team. This start TODAY! Bishopton will be starting a Ladies Rugby Fitness Bootcamp.

Our aim for this going forward is to start introducing the game in the Renfrewshire area to ladies that have never played rugby before, have had time away and wanting to lace up their boots once more and to those that play currently and want to help build a new chapter in a Aspiring Rugby Club.

The training will be lead from a combination of First XV Coach Robbie Stewart and Limitless Training Personal Trainer Danika Quinn. The training will be Non Contact to begin with, focusing on fitness & skills through non contact games and activities.  With this we hope to progress  to having our very first ladies match hosted at Holmpark in the near future.

Training starts Monday the 29th January at 8pm until 9pm at Renfrew Sports Centre, for ladies aged 16 and over and be sure to wrap up warm.
