Bishopton Rugby Newsletter

December 2018

Dear Member,

Hello it's a quick newsletter to wish you a Happy New Year from all at Bishopton Rugby and hope you will join in with our celebrations for early 2016 - more details below. We had a fantastic year at Bishopton Rugby in 2015, raising money for Matthews Memorial Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust, partaking in social events and obviously... playing rugby!

Message from the President

Hi folks, just an update with what’s been happening Bishopton Rugby...

2015 was a great year for the club, in some respects, and not so great in others. We unfortunately lost two members of our rugby family - Ivel Sutherland and Matthew Seymour. We received an overwhelming amount of support during such dark times and can only thank you for your kind words and support. On a more positive note, we've raised a massive amount of money to prevent this happening to other young people, through Matthew's Memorial Fund. As it currently stands, £23,500 has been raised through our on-going fundraising and your generosity - so from everyone here at Bishopton Rugby, along with Matthew's family, thank you.

In 2016, we are aiming to continue to grow our club and hope to remain as great as we have been in 2015. However, we can only continue to be the great rugby club we are, with your help and support. We're running a number of fundraising events in the coming year and would love it if you could join us for at least one event, if not all!

Let's make 2016 another fantastic year of rugby and the year that Scotland win the Six Nations.

Best Wishes,

 Graeme Adam - President

CRY Heart Screening

As part of our ongoing commitment to Matthew Seymour's Memorial, Bishopton Rugby, in partnership with CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) are offering heart screening to young people to help identify some of the conditions that may lead to the premature death of a seemingly healthy young person.

These screenings are performed by volunteer health professionals and are specifically designed to detect potential life changing conditions.

The CRY website is very informative and details of what happens during the screening are found by clicking on the link here.

Through the fantastic efforts of the rugby club, the family and friends of Kenny, Doreen and Harry Seymour, Matthew’s CRY Memorial Fund has managed to raise enough money to screen 100 of our young people and there is a space for you should you choose to accept it.

You should have already received an email from Kenny Seymour, if we think you are eligible, however, in the event that you haven't received this email, please email Kenny on:

Ingliston Launch New Menu

Our Seniors recently were asked to try out the New menus at our club Sponsor Ingliston Equestrian. Guys all certainly enjoyed the evening and the food was excellent. Thanks to the Staff for looking after us so well. Gary and Max do scrub up well, do they not?

100 Club

Lots of excitement this month for our 100 club members. The great news is thanks to Doreen Seymour and our Micro and Mini parents, we have sold all out 100 numbers for the first time ever! The really exciting news is that we will also have one of the biggest rollover draw we have ever had for £600 for the first number drawn for February. Numbers will be drawn at the Gatsby night on the 20th of February.

You've got to be in it, to win it!

Youth Development: Ross McGowan

Ross McGowan our Youth Development lead, has been working with Active Renfrewshire and ourselves, taking Rugby classes at Bishopton, Langbank, Rashielea and Inchinnan Primaries. Classes are being very well received by the Children, which can be seen in our growing Mini Section numbers, as many children who experience Rugby through these clubs, look to play more rugby and sports in General. Keep up the great work Ross!

Andy Jackson – our club secretary, will again be using his company Volunteer hours available from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and will be starting to coach at Park Mains from the 22nd of February. Classes will take place on Monday’s after School. He will be looking to work with all age groups but with a primary focus on S1-S3’s.

SRU Pathway Development

5 of our U15’s players, recently attended their first SRU Pathway Development session held for the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Warriors. Feedback from the SRU is that they lads performed well, and we wish them continued success in their Development.

Finally, our U15’s are delighted to be sporting their brand new strip.  A massive thank-you to Jim Price and Acre for their Sponsorship!
