Message from the President

March 2014 looks to be one of the most significant and emotional months for Bishopton Rugby in our 20 year history.

On the 4th of March we saw the funeral on our Honorary President and the founder of our club George Hardie. George was the man who saw the potential of our village and wider community and had the vision and drive to bring our club into existence. I would like to add, that it is a privilege to be President after George and to work to continue his legacy. I just wish that he had seen our promotion (hopefully) this season. Our thoughts remain with his family.

If our first XV win at Glasgow East and other results go for us, then this Saturday the 22nd, we will clinch promotion to West Division 3. I know our Senior players are very keen to achieve this and I for one will be there cheering them on at Hamilton Palace this Saturday, 3pm kick off. The club are putting on a bus – leaving Lorimers at 1:30, with a nominal £3 for supporters to come along and cheer on the Bish.

Finally the first meeting of the Bishopton Community Development Trust occurs on the 26th of March to elect the first board of Directors. The trust is part of the legal obligation BAE Systems have with Renfrewshire Council to be set up and given initial funding by them, in regards their development at old ROF grounds. This is also the first step towards the transfer of our pitch at Holmpark, to the ownership of the Trust at the occupation of the 411 house in Dargavel. We as a club have been working closely with all other sporting groups in the village, from Football & Tennis to Basketball & bowls and we have a shared vision of a purpose built Sports and Leisure facility. Initially based around an Floodlit IRB-3G artificial pitch, with co-ed changing rooms, then expanding to include floodlit Tennis courts, basketball, indoor bowls and a gym.

If you live within the Bishopton boundary, mostly PA7, or are entitled to vote at a local government election in a polling district that includes the ‘Community’ or part of it. You can become a member and also a director if you wish. It is only members who can elect the Board of Directors. I will be putting myself up for election as well as Chris Dunn and we would appreciate your help and support, if you are eligible, to come along and help support these much needed community facilities.

Mon the Bish

Graeme Adam – President, Bishopton RFC
